the direction we gaze tells us if we are concerned
with the historic past or future. On a symbolic level, a subject facing
left to right is concerned with the unwritten future—a subject facing
right to left is concerned with the past. This notion is based on the
trans-literal line of written English. If the viewer writes in Arabic or
Hebrew, this concept of seeing time is reversed.
